MATARAM NTB
HISTORY
In Lombok, the
name Mataram is mentioned in various ways. Some call it Mataram, Metaram,
Mentaram, or Mataharam. Some literature also mentions that the word Mataram
comes from Sanskrit from the word mata meaning mother and aram which means
entertainment. In addition, it is also mentioned that Mataram means an offering
to the motherland. Another version says that Mataram comes from the word matta
which means joy or passion and aram which means entertainment. Thus, matta-aram
or Mataram means the construction of a kingdom or city as a symbol of the expression
of the joy of entertainment as well as a symbol of the excitement of life to
build a land of hope that promises a brighter future.
